Built slowly, on purpose
Slow Tide opened in 2019, when Mara — a Melbourne barista who kept extending her Bali visa — and Putu, who grew up two streets away, decided the best empty corner of Batu Bolong deserved a cafe that didn't hurry anyone. They built the bar themselves, planted the frangipani out front, and started pulling shots a month before the chairs arrived.
Our coffee comes from smallholder farms on the slopes of Mount Batur, and it's roasted for us every fortnight by Rumah Roastery in Ubud — our roasting partner since day one. Every new lot is cupped together at the bar before it reaches your cup. The house espresso, the Tide Blend, leans chocolatey and low-acid; the single origin on the V60 changes with the harvest.
Seven years on, some guests have written novels at table four. That's the idea.
